Head 27
This project merges film photography and wheat pasting to reintroduce the captivating narrative of Mildrid Fish-Harnack, a Milwaukee-born (*1902) professor at UW Madison and member of the anti-Nazi resistance group, the Red Chapel. Placed in the Midtown neighborhood of Milwaukee, the poster adorns an abandoned building at 1118 N 26th St—the closest physical address to Fish-Harnack's childhood home. Notably, Fish-Harnack holds the tragic distinction of being the only American woman executed on direct orders from Adolf Hitler for her resolute involvement in the resistance movement. Her poignant final words, "And I have loved Germany so much," continue to resonate. This artwork aims to spark curiosity and foster a renewed appreciation for Fish-Harnack's story within the local community.
